Having photographed and visited the island since 1989, and completing my final year project at university on the role of the image within the modern travel and tourism industry, I moved to the island on a full-time basis. Whilst there I setup my own business, Creative Solutions for Business, which provided graphic design, photography and marketing consultancy services to the local community. My main client during this period was the States of Alderney (the island’s government) and in particular the Alderney Tourism and Marketing Department.
I particularly enjoyed working on a series of large-scale posters/framed artworks which were used in English and French airports in order to promote the new tourism website www.visitalderney.com and for which I undertook extensive image research and was commissioned to take many original images.
I was also involved in print projects such as: fold-out OS map (English, French and German versions), a visitors guide for sailors, a visitors guide for private pilots, promotional leaflets, creating graphics and writing feature articles for the tourism brochure, large-scale informational signage at the airport and harbour.
